Former First Lady of Nigeria, and the wife of late President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, in her recent biography about her late husband has revealed that her late husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, believed rumors that she was plotting to kill him, which led to him locking his room and altering his daily habits.

According to her, Buhari stopped eating properly and discontinued his supplements, resulting in a significant decline in his health.

Aisha explained that she had managed Buhari’s diet and supplements carefully, ensuring he received the necessary nutrients at specific hours. However, when the Presidency took over their private lives, the routine was disrupted, and Buhari’s health suffered.

She attributed Buhari’s 2017 health crisis to the disruption of his feeding routine and mismanaged nutrition, rather than poisoning or a mysterious illness. Aisha Buhari can be quoted saying From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari’, a biography about the late Nigerian President:
“When the Presidency’s machinery took over our private lives, I explained the plan: daily, at specific hours, cups and bowls with tailored vitamin powders and oil, a touch of protein here, a change to cereals there.

The former President spent over 150 days in the UK for medical treatment, and Aisha believes that proper nutrition and supplements helped him recover.

Muhammadu Buhari first ruled Nigeria as a Military man from 1983 to 1985 and as President from 2015 to 2023, he died after a brief illness on 13, July 2025 at the age of 82.
