NEWS: 24 RESCUED SCHOOL GIRLS HANDED OVER TO FIRST LADY.

The Kebbi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Halima Bande, has handed over 24 rescued schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga to the state’s First Lady, Zainab Nasare Idris. The girls were abducted on Monday November 17 and were rescued after a joint operation by the military, police, local vigilantes, and intelligence units. The girls were found unharmed in Bagega Forest, where they were being held by their abductors.

The military combed the area and successfully rescued the students. The rescued girls will now undergo comprehensive medical examinations to ascertain their health status before being reunited with their families.


Governor Nasir Idris thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for deploying the full machinery of government towards the successful rescue operation. He also commended the military, security agencies, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their dedication and coordination. Governor Idris confirmed that no ransom was paid for the rescue of the schoolgirls.


The handover ceremony was attended by government officials, parents, and family members of the rescued girls. The girls were received with joy and prayers, marking a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
