Ariyike Owolagba, popularly known as Ariyiike Dimples, has opened up about a difficult experience that led her to stop attending her community church for three years. During an appearance on the Open Up podcast, she shared how an older woman in the church confronted her over her outfit, a modest pencil skirt, and condemned her for wearing it.
Ariyike said the encounter left her feeling unfairly judged, especially since the church was predominantly made up of elderly members who often imposed strict doctrinal expectations on young people. She explained, “In my community church, na only elderly people full there. Young people don commot go other churches.” She’s emphasizing that while it’s okay to have doctrines, there’s a more compassionate way to communicate with younger members without making them feel condemned.
Ariyike’s experience highlights the challenges of intergenerational relationships within churches and the need for understanding and empathy. Her story has sparked a lot of conversation, and it’s clear that she’s still passionate about the issue. As she puts it, “Yes, you can have your doctrines, but there’s a way to talk to young people without condemning them.”
