NEWS: JOHESU COMMENCES INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE.

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) have declared an indefinite nationwide strike starting on midnight Friday, November 14, 2025, due to the Federal Government’s prolonged delay in implementing the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS). The decision was made in Abuja on Friday afternoon after a meeting. This strike affects federal health institutions nationwide.

The government has delayed implementing CONHESS for 12 years, despite a 2014 agreement. Despite assurances and meetings, the government hasn’t provided a positive response to JOHESU’s demands.

The government implemented a parallel adjustment for the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in 2014, violating the Collective Bargaining Agreement that established both salary structures.

The strike, coinciding with an existing strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), is expected to severely disrupt services in federal teaching hospitals, specialist centers, and many state-owned hospitals.

Federal health institutions, including teaching hospitals and specialist centers, will likely experience significant disruptions.

JOHESU has prioritized social dialogue and shown maturity, selflessness, and patriotism, but feels these virtues have been taken for granted.

The union warns against victimizing members participating in the strike and assures that communication channels will remain open throughout the industrial action.
