Late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba known as Mohbad’s family has banned his wife, Wunmi, from using their family name, Aloba, pending a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam.
In an official statement signed by the head of the Aloba family, Omolayo Aloba and the late singer’s father Joseph Aloba, the family has now barred Wunmi from formally using the name “Aloba”. The family claims that no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between Mohbad and Wunmi, as the required Yoruba traditional rites were never completed. Mohbad’s family doesn’t recognize Wunmi as his wife due to the lack of traditional rites.

The family’s decision has sparked controversy, with many taking to social media to express their opinions on the matter. Some are supporting the family’s demand for a DNA test, while others believe Wunmi has the right to use the Aloba name.
Mohbad controversially died at the age of 27 on September 12 2023 after an unlicensed Auxiliary nurse injected him, his body which was buried the next day in Ikorodu was exhumed for autopsy and investigations were being carried out on circumstances surrounding the sudden demise.
