Destalker, a popular Nigerian comedian, has opened up about his past, revealing that he attempted internet fraud before making it big in comedy – but failed miserably. In a candid interview on the In-house Gist podcast, he shared that his foray into cybercrime was short-lived, thanks to his kind heart.
According to Destalker, it was a friend, now a respected Christian cleric, Rev. Nelson Umeh, who introduced him to the world of internet fraud. However, his soft spot for others got the better of him, and he couldn’t bring himself to scam people. “I wasn’t successful at it because I’m too kind-hearted,” he admitted. “I would rather chat with family and friends on Facebook than hunt for victims online.”
Destalker recalled how his friend would book night sessions at cyber cafes, but he’d often fall asleep, unable to bring himself to engage in the illicit activities. “There is no need for overspending when you’re on the wrong lane,” he quipped.
Today, Destalker is grateful that things didn’t work out in the world of cybercrime. He’s confident that his experiences, though challenging, have made him a stronger person. “Because of all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal,” he declared.
The comedian also took a swipe at fellow comedians who doubted him, saying, “Some of them said without them, I wouldn’t perform at certain shows, but I told them I’d blow even without performing there. And I did.” Destalker’s rise to fame is a testament to his resilience and talent, and his story serves as a reminder that honesty and kindness can ultimately lead to success.
