China has expressed strong support for Nigeria’s government, warning against foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs following United States President Donald Trump’s threat of possible military action. Trump’s warning came after he redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to alleged persecution of Christians writing on his Instagram that American Army will be “going to the now disgraced country “guns-a-blazing” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists” and that the the attack would be “fast”, “vicious” and “sweet”.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, on Tuesday November 4, in Beijing, China, stated that China firmly opposes any country using religion or human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and threatening them with sanctions and force. Mao emphasized China’s comprehensive strategic partnership with Nigeria, supporting the country’s development path suited to its national conditions.
“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on the development path suited to its national conditions, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force” she said.
