ENTERTAINMENT: NIGERIAN LIVE MUSICIAN AKIN SUGA DIES AT 50.

Renowned Nigerian musician and live-band leader, Akin Suga, has passed away at 50. He died on October 30, 2025, in New Brunswick, Canada. The cause of his death is not publicly disclosed. Akin Shuga was widely respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s music scene, particularly in the live band industry. He founded the Shuga Band and Shuga Entertainment, and his legacy will continue to inspire through his music and philanthropic work .


His family confirmed his demise in a statement that partly reads:
“Across more than three decades of excellence on stage and in mentorship, he redefined what it meant to lead a band with grace, mastery, and purpose. To countless admirers at home and abroad, he was both an inspiration and an institution: a true king in his art.

as the family comes to terms with this immeasurable loss, we humbly request privacy and quiet reflection at this deeply difficult time. We wish for the space to find closure and to honour his life in the intimacy of loved ones and cherished memories We extend appreciation to all who have reached out with prayers, tributes, and kind words.”

paid glowing tributes to his exceptional talent, leadership, and dedication to his craft.

Akin Suga was born Akinloye Tofowomo on January 6, 1975 in Ondo state, growing up he spent some time in Enugu and Calabar. In 1998 he started the Suga band in a bar in Ikeja Lagos, some of his songs includes “My lady”, “You are married today” and “I can walk” a song he dedicated to survivors of Polio in Africa.
