Wolverhampton Wanderers has sacked manager Vitor Pereira following a disastrous start to the Premier League season. Pereira’s departure comes after the team’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham, in a match were the fans sang “you are getting fired in the morning” at him.
The Portuguese coach had been in charge for 11 months, taking over in December 2024, and had previously guided the team to safety with a run of six straight wins in March and April. Wolves escaped relegation last season finishing 16th place with 42 points due to his heroics and just September here he was rewarded with 3 year contract.
Wolves have had a winless start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, with 2 draws and 8 losses in 10 games, and a significant gap to the safety zone. They are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table, 8 points below Burnley in 17th place.
He now leaves the club after managing 38 games in which there were 14 wins, 5 draws and 19 losses.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.
Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.” Club Executive Chairman Jeff Shi in a statement said.
Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take charge of training until a new manager is appointed.
Wolves will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday November 09, before the November international break. The club recently suffered a 4 – 3 defeat to the Blues in the round 16 of the English Football League cup, sending them out of the competition.
