NEWS: TWO-STOREY BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS LEAVES ONE DEAD, 26 RESCUED.

A two-storey building collapse in Lagos on Monday October 27 has resulted in one death and 26 survivors being rescued. According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the collapse occurred at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo area, after the structure was identified as distressed.


“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which has reportedly [been] marked distress before collapsing on the occupants, 15 adults which includes 7 male adults, and 7 female adults, and 4 children have been rescued with varying degrees of injury and taken to Federal Medical Center, Ebute Meta, and General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island,” Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue told reporters on Monday, October 27.


Lagos has not had a fair share of building collapses this year. In 2025 alone, there have been multiple building collapses in the state, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Some notable incidents include the
January 2025 three-storey building collapse in Surulere, that killed two people and injured several others, The April 2025 building collapse in Ojodu-Berger that resulted in one death and 13 rescued, Three construction workers have also reportedly lost their lives in a collapse at Onike, Yaba in May and In August 2025, A partially completed commercial building also collapsed in Ajah, injuring at least five laborers.

Just last month September, a three-storey building also collapsed on the13 in Alagomeji, Yaba, resulted in one fatality and four being rescued.
