A devastating gas explosion recently ripped through the Orisunmibare Market in Orile-Iganmu, Surulere local government, Lagos, destroying several shops and causing widespread panic. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 26, 2025, around 2:13 p.m. on Baale Street, with the fire spreading rapidly due to nearby shops using camp gas for cooking.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but one person sustained minor injuries. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, deploying operatives to control the situation and prevent further escalation. Goods worth millions of naira were, however, destroyed in the blaze.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
