ENTERTAINMENT: I QUIT ACTING CAREER CAUSE OF SEX-FOR-ROLE CALLS – DIRECTOR PINK

Renowned Nigerian music video director and cinematographer, Praise Onyeagwalam, known professionally as Director Pink has revealed that she abandoned her acting career due to incessant sex-for-role propositions from male filmmakers.

She shared her experience in a recent interview with Hip TV, stating that the humiliation and sexual exploitation she faced at auditions were too much to bear.

“I wanted to be an actress but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss”.

She advised upcoming music video directors to remain patient and focused, emphasizing that success in the industry requires time, discipline, and sacrifice. Director Pink has directed many music videos namely Abracadabra Remix by Rexxie, Wizkid, Skibii and Naira Marley, Egwu by Chike and the late Mohbad, Ole by Qing Madi and BNXN to name a few.

The issue of sex-for-role has been a long-standing concern in Nollywood, with various actresses and stakeholders speaking out against the alleged exploitation by male directors and producers.
