Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has won a defamation lawsuit against an online news platform, Polace Media Limited, owners of Naija News, over a false report linking her to Senator Dino Melaye. The Lagos State High Court awarded her ₦20 million in damages for breach of privacy.
Adunni Ade filed a ₦100 million suit against the platform for defamation and invasion of privacy.
The court ruled in her favor, ordering the respondents to delete and expunge her name and picture from the offending publication.
“Won my case Adunni Ade vs. Polace
Media Limited (www.ZeeNaija.com). A false story was published about me, but truth stood tall. This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters – and so does integrity. Justice delayed isn’t justice denied.” The Actress wrote on her Instagram page on Tuesday, October 7 evening.
The court awarded Adunni Ade ₦20 million in general damages, but the blogger is reportedly attempting to evade payment, prompting the actress to consider account garnishment.
“Judge granted N20 million in damages, but blogger don japa. Na to garnish account remain.” She added.
Adunni Ade expressed gratitude to the Nigerian court system for upholding her right to privacy and integrity.
She thanked her lawyer, Olumide Babalola LP, for their hard work on the case. The Actress also hinted at pursuing additional legal cases, cautioning individuals attempting to evade court proceedings to make themselves available to be served.
“2 cases won, a few more to go. You who is running up and down avoiding court papers, please stand still, so that you can be served.” she advised.
