Ralph Uwazurike, the founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has expressed willingness to join a peaceful protest in Abuja to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Uwazurike also wants to testify as a defense witness in Kanu’s trial, having reached out to Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor. He dismissed terrorism charges against Kanu, describing them as baseless.
Uwazurike is ready to join the protest if it’s peaceful and non-violent. He has expressed willingness to testify in court to support Kanu’s case.
“I’ve listened to the court proceedings and the presentations by Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, and I want to say that I wish to be part of any peaceful demonstration in Abuja or anywhere in Nigeria for his release, This is not just about Nnamdi Kanu; this is about Ndigbo.
If anybody thinks that Kanu is being humiliated today, no — it is Ndigbo that are being humiliated, This has nothing to do with terrorism but with deep-rooted injustice against Ndigbo. We must do this for the future of our children. I will be there.”
Uwazurike said in a video message released on Wednesday October 8.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has also announced plans to lead a protest to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, urging Southeast leaders to join in demanding Kanu’s release.
Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of IPOB, has been detained since June 2021 after being renditioned from Kenya. Recently his Lawyer proposed a motion for him to be moved to the hospital for medical attention due to his health issues but the court turned it down.
