ENTERTAINMENT: TEMS OPENS UP EARLY CAREER STRUGGLES, SAYS SHE DIDN’T FEEL SAFE, SEEN, SUPPORTED.

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi professionally known as Tems, has opened up about the challenges she faced at the beginning of her music career. She revealed that it was hard for people to take her seriously, not just as a producer but also as a singer.

Tems shared her struggles in a recent interview with CNN, stating that she didn’t feel safe, seen, or supported for a long time.

“It was really hard to get people to take me seriously, not just as a producer, but as a singer. I didn’t feel safe, and I didn’t feel seen, and I didn’t feel supported for a very long time,”.
Despite these challenges, Tems has achieved significant milestones in her career, including winning two Grammy Awards for Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Wait For U” with Future and Drake) and Best African Music Performance (“Love Me JeJe”).

She’s now using her platform to empower women in the music industry through her initiative, The Leading Vibe. This program aims to provide opportunities for women working behind the scenes, such as producers, managers, and sound engineers, who often lack visibility.
