ENTERTAINMENT: “MY FATHER ALWAYS TELL ME I WAS A FAILURE” SINGER SPYRO OPENS UP ON HIS UPBRINGING.

Spyro, the Nigerian singer behind the hit song “Who Is Your Guy,” recently opened up about his struggles with fear and self-doubt. He shared that he once believed he’d “die broke” due to his deep-seated fear of failure, which stemmed from his father’s constant criticism during his childhood.

Spyro’s father, a pastor, would often tell him he was a failure, which severely affected his confidence and shaped his outlook on life. This criticism led to Spyro internalizing his father’s words, making him see himself as incapable of success. He struggled with poor grades in secondary school and doubted his ability to complete his university education.

“I thought I was going to die broke. I always had this fear of failure. My dad contributed to that because he took every opportunity he got to always tell me that I am a failure, I don’t blame him, cause you know the way pastors are with their children, they’re just really very high-handed because they don’t want them to change and turn into the world, So I had that fear of failure that even in secondary school it was with me. I internalised it and I now saw myself as a failure at some point” The Singer said.

Everything changed for Spyro when he developed a personal relationship with God, which gave him renewed confidence and direction. He credits this newfound connection with helping him overcome his fear of failure.

Spyro’s song “Who Is Your Guy” went viral in 2022, and the remix featuring Tiwa Savage in 2023 catapulted him to stardom. The song won Best Collaboration at the 16th Headies Awards. He also recently got engaged to his fiance

Today, Spyro is using his platform to inspire others, sharing his journey from self-doubt to success as a reminder that belief can heal what doubt once broke.
