NEWS: SAPELE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BANS FACE MASK USE BY OKADA AND KEKE RIDERS.

The Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State has imposed a ban on Okada and Keke riders from wearing face masks while on duty. This directive aims to enhance public safety and security by preventing potential criminals from concealing their identities. The ban will take effect 30 days from the announcement date, giving riders sufficient time to comply.


Okada Riders are now to operate between 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily while Keke riders 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily
Okada riders must wear reflective vests with clearly written Area Code Numbers for easy identification. Keke operators must display valid Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) Numbers on their tricycles and Passengers are prohibited from boarding Keke without a visible and valid VIO Number.
Penalties for Non-Compliance are:


– Riders found wearing face masks will be arrested immediately.
– Operators violating the directives will face a seven-day detention.
The local government has warned that anyone caught stealing within the Area Transport Park (ATP) premises will be “shot on sight”, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to crime.


“The operation time for okada riders is now restricted to 6:00 am – 8:00 pm daily. Every rider must wear a reflective vest with a clearly written Area Code Number, Any okada rider found wearing face masks while on duty shall be arrested immediately,” For tricycle operators, the council fixed operational hours between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily.

The Sapele Local Government Council has emphasized that these measures are designed to maintain peace and order, ensure effective transportation management, and enhance public safety in the area.
