NEWS: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY EXTENDS LAGOS-CALABAR COASTAL HIGHWAY INCLUDING EDO STATE.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially extended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to include Edo State, with an additional 100-kilometer stretch of the project now passing through the state. This brings the total length of the highway to 750 kilometers, connecting Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a 750-kilometer project aimed at improving cross-country connectivity and trade relations between the western and south-eastern regions of Nigeria. The extension of the highway to Edo State was announced by Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the Edo State Independence Gala Night in Benin City.

“The route was earlier announced, but unfortunately it did not include Edo State. Today, the difference in length from 700km to 750km is because a miracle happened here. The President directed that the highway must run from Lagos to Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and end in Cross River,” He announced.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo expresses his gratitude to President Tinubu for including Edo on the project.
The project is expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment opportunities in the South-South region.
The highway project is currently under development, with the first phase already commissioned in May 2025 with Hi-Tech Construction Company Ltd being awarded the contract for the first phase of the project.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to improving infrastructure across the country, with a focus on delivering quality and timely projects.
The government believes that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth and development.
