NEWS: DELTA COURT SUSPENDS ENFORCEMENT OF TINTED GLASS PERMIT BY POLICE.

The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has suspended the enforcement of tinted glass permits by the Nigeria Police Force. The court made this ruling on October 3, 2025, in a case filed by lawyer John Aikpokpo-Martins against the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force.
The court directed the police authorities to maintain the status quo and respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter.

The Nigeria Police Force had resumed issuing tinted glass permits nationwide in April, citing the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 1991 and national security concerns. However, rights groups and motorists argued that the policy was exploitative and unconstitutional.

Before the court ruling, the Delta State Police had announced plans to enforce the tinted glass regulations starting October 2, 2025, promising to conduct operations professionally and respect constitutional rights. The court’s decision is seen as a significant step in upholding the rule of law while the substantive issues in the case are being determined.
The court aimed to prevent potential harassment and extortion of motorists by law enforcement officers. The ruling allows the court to further consider the constitutionality of the tinted glass permit policy.
