NEWS: HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST CALL FOR INVESTIGATION OF THE CASE OF WOMAN SET ABLAZE FOR CHILD THEFT IN AGBARHO.

Human rights activist Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen has indeed called for an immediate investigation into the murder of a woman in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The woman was allegedly killed by an angry mob on suspicion of attempting to steal a seven-year-old child.

According to Agberen, those suspected to be responsible for the crime must be arrested and brought to justice.

The woman was set ablaze by the mob on Wednesday, September 13, 2025.
The activist condemned the actions of the mob, highlighting the tragic consequences of mob justice and its erosion of public trust in the justice system.

Agberen emphasized the need for stronger law enforcement, public education, and judicial reforms to prevent such incidents.
He expressed concern about the psychological trauma the victim’s children may face, growing up without their mother due to the unjust killing.

“While I must also recognize that the citizens’ loss of confidence and public trust in the legal and judicial system, and the failure of relevant government bodies to make necessary reforms, are responsible for these incidences, the menace of mob violence is perhaps one of the biggest threats to the right to life in Nigeria, just like these kids would have to psychologically suffer from the trauma of what happened to their mother in broad daylight.” Derrick stated in a statement sent to a correspondent in Warri.
