Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sacked all commissioners and public officers in his administration, effective immediately. This decision follows a Supreme Court judgment nullifying the appointments of these officials, who were screened and approved by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The Supreme Court ruling recognized the Martins Amaewhule-led assembly as the authentic legislative body in Rivers State, rendering the appointments made by the previous faction invalid. The sack was announced during a valedictory session held at Government House, Port Harcourt, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
Fubara expressed gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service and contributions to the state’s development, reiterating his commitment to serve Rivers State with renewed vigor.
The governor urged citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.
The sack follows a six-month state of emergency imposed by President Tinubu in March, which was lifted on September 18. The court’s decision recognized the Amaewhule-led assembly as the lawful legislative body in Rivers State, nullifying the actions of the Oko-Jumbo-led faction.
