NEWS: FG CANCELS INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE.

The Nigerian government has cancelled the Independence Day parade scheduled for October 1, 2025, to mark the country’s 65th anniversary of independence. Although no official reason was provided for the cancellation, the government emphasized that the decision doesn’t diminish the significance of the milestone anniversary.

Other activities planned for the anniversary, such as the presidential broadcast, cultural programs, and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate, will still take place as scheduled.

“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October, The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm. Accordingly, all other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.

The Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this cancellation.” Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, in a statement on Monday 29 September said.

This year’s theme is “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel to secure the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the celebrations.
The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s independence with dignity and enthusiasm, urging citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
