NEWS: PRESIDENT TINUBU TASKS WORLDWIDE NATIONS TO ELIMINATE NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

President Bola Tinubu has called for the total elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide, emphasizing that their existence poses a significant threat to global peace and security. He made this plea during a high-level meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York to commemorate the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

“Nigeria will continue to do its part to ensure total elimination of nuclear weapons is achieved,” Mr President said.

Tinubu stressed that the total elimination of nuclear weapons is the only absolute guarantee against their use or threat of use, citing the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of intentional or unintentional nuclear explosions.”The catastrophic humanitarian consequences that could result from either intentional use or unintentional explosion of these dangerous weapons are dire,” he said.

He highlighted Africa’s proactive approach to nuclear disarmament through the Pelindaba Treaty, which declares the continent a nuclear-weapon-free zone, and encouraged other regions to follow suit.
The President urged Nuclear-Weapon States to implement agreed measures toward disarmament, cease testing and development of nuclear weapons, and comply with existing frameworks for nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to achieving a nuclear-weapon-free world, emphasizing the country’s role in promoting disarmament and non-proliferation.
