Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has firmly denied rumors of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Friday, Kwankwaso described the claims as “online statements” lacking credibility or foundation. He urged the public to rely only on information from his official communication channels regarding his political future.
Kwankwaso clarified that he has not submitted a letter of intent to join any political party, including the APC.
“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country, We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party. The public is therefore advised to stay informed of any further information regarding our matter through the established official channel,” A statement duly signed by Kwankwanso’s media team on Friday September 26 reads.
The rumors come as APC is reportedly eyeing a broader northern consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While denying the defection rumors, Kwankwaso’s next steps remain critical, given his strong grassroots support in the North and influence as the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement. APC has stated that there has been no official conversation or plan to welcome Kwankwaso into its fold.
