The third round of the English Football League saw the big teams feature in the tournament for the first time. Holders Newcastle United begin their defence with a convincing win over League One side a resounding 4 – 1 victory for Eddie Howe side.


Liverpool won Southampton by a 2 – 1 in a game that saw record signing Alexander Isak scoring his first Liverpool goal and Hugo Ekitike being sent off for taking off his shirt after scoring yet another late winner for Liverpool to maintain their 100% start to the season in all competitions. Chelsea who featured its fringes players came from behind in the second half to win against Lincoln City as Tyrique George scored a beauty and assisted Facundo Buonanotte who scored his first goal for the club.

Alejandro Garnacho who made his first start was booed by the Lincoln fans till his substitution in the 59th minute. In yet another game in the round Diego Gomez hit 4 as Brighton humbled Barnsley 6 – 0 and Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze also registers his first score for the club as they beat Port Vale 2 – 0.
