SPORTS: BENFICA APPOINTS JOSE MOURINHO AS HEAD COACH.

Jose Mourinho has been appointed as the new head coach of Benfica, marking his return to the Portuguese club 25 years after his first stint. This appointment comes after Benfica sacked Bruno Lage following a 3-2 loss to Qarabag in the Champions League.

Mourinho’s move to Benfica sets up an exciting matchup against his former club Chelsea in the Champions League on September 30.

Mourinho has signed a two-year contract with Benfica, with an option for either party to end the deal at the end of the current campaign.

During his first spell at Benfica in 2000, Mourinho led the team for 11 games, implementing innovative training methods and building a strong team dynamic.

Mourinho has had a storied coaching career, winning numerous titles with top clubs like Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.

His most recent role before accepting the Benfica job was with Turkish side Fenerbahce, who dismissed him last month after he was unable to lead them to Uefa Champions League League phase qualification losing out to the same Benfica.
Benfica’s schedule includes Champions League matches against Chelsea, Newcastle, and Real Madrid, among others.

Mourinho expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating that he’s “more mature” now and focused on bringing success to Benfica. The club’s president, Rui Costa, welcomed Mourinho warmly, highlighting the significance of his appointment.
