He’s concerned about getting a “phuza face,” a South African term used to describe someone who looks significantly older than they are due to excessive drinking. Nasty C believes that heavy drinking can make a person appear 10 years older than their actual age, which motivated him to stop drinking.
The 28-year-old rapper had a history of drinking heavily, whether he was in the studio, at a restaurant, or performing. He’d drink various types of liquor, including vodka, whisky, cognac, tequila, and rum. However, he realized the negative impact it could have on his appearance and decided to quit.
Nasty C’s decision to stop drinking comes from a desire to maintain his youthful appearance. His experience with alcohol addiction and subsequent decision to quit serves as an inspiration to his fans.
“I was addicted to alcohol. I was drinking every night. Everytime I go to the studio, restaurant, I drink. Everytime I perform, I drink.
Also, my tolerance when it comes to alcohol was very high, too. When I drink alcohol with friends, I would be the last one to be intoxicated. And I feel it’s a bad thing because you never know when something is going wrong until it’s too late. I got off the vodka a little bit but I was drinking everything else. Whisky, cognac, tequila, rum – I was drinking everything.
I gave up alcohol because I don’t want to get a ‘phuza face.’ There’s a thing in South Africa we call a ‘phuza face’ – when you age really quickly because you drink a lot of alcohol, when you start looking 10 years older than you actually are.” The Musician told Madame Joyce the British-Nigerian Media Personality in a recent interview.
As a renowned South African rapper, Nasty C has won numerous awards, including Best Male Rap Act and Best Hip Hop Artist at the MTV Africa Music Awards.
