Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United for the 2025-26 season. The deal, subject to international clearance and registration, means Onana will play for the Turkish Süper Lig club without a permanent transfer option.
Trabzonspor will cover Onana’s full salary, with potential performance-based bonuses.
Onana’s spell at Manchester United was mixed, with 102 appearances for the Reds since signing from Inter Milan in July 2023 for £48 million. He faced criticism for high-profile errors and was eventually dropped from the squad.
His last appearance at the club was the shock defeat to EFL League two side Grimsby with his errors leading to both goals of the opposition in a 2 – 2 draw with United being ousted out of the EFL cup after a lengthy penalty shoot – out.
Manchester United has signed Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Antwerp as Onana’s replacement.
This loan move offers Onana a chance to revive his career away from the pressure of the Premier League. Fans are cautiously optimistic about Manchester United’s ability to secure a reliable long-term goalkeeper.
Onana’s departure highlights the intense pressures at top clubs, where high expectations meet harsh realities. His move follows a pattern where Manchester United players who went out on loan have had breakthrough seasons, similar to Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund and Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa.
