The Jigawa State Government has increased the monthly allowance for non-permanent teachers from N30,000 to N40,000.
The affected teachers are those serving with degree certificates under the J-Teach programme across secondary schools in all the 27 local government areas in the state.
It could be recalled that the Jigawa State Government introduced and launched the J-Teach programme in 2021 to address the shortage of qualified teachers across the state’s public schools.
In a move set to uplift morale amidst economic challenges, the Jigawa State Government has increased the monthly allowance for non-permanent teachers from N30,000 to N40,000.
According to the government, the programme aims to recruit and train non-permanent teachers to improve education delivery across the state to ensure more children have access to quality teaching.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner of Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Namadi at the Government House in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.
The decision covers all non-permanent teachers spread across public secondary schools in the state’s 27 local government areas, ensuring a fair and uniform boost in their earnings,” Musa added.
He furthermore, acknowledged the economic hardship faced by many citizens and said this increment is a step toward easing the burden on these educators.
However, the commissioner also appealed to the beneficiaries to continue showing dedication in their teaching duties, saying, “The government values your contribution and believes this increase will inspire greater productivity.”
When asked about funding, Musa assured that the state budget has provisions to sustain the new allowance level without disruptions.
He further assured the public of the Jigawa State Government’s readiness towards prioritizing other frontline workers across all sectors in times of economic stress.
“The present government under the leadership of Governor Namadi remains committed to improving the welfare of all public servants, and more initiatives are underway to support workers’ wellbeing in the state,” the commissioner noted.
