Bayer Leverkusen has appointed Kasper Hjulmand as their new coach, replacing Erik ten Hag who was dismissed after just two league games. Hjulmand, the former Denmark manager, has signed a contract until 2027 and is expected to lead the team in their upcoming match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Hjulmand’s contract runs until 2027.
The 53-year-old Dane previously guided Denmark to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and took the team to the last 16 of Euro 2024.
Hjulmand has experience coaching in the Bundesliga, having led Mainz 05 in the 2014-15 season, although he was sacked after a run of one win in 13 games.
Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes expects Hjulmand to “set up a clear and dominant style of play” and strive for national and international success.
Hjulmand is expected to begin duty in Leverkusen’s home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday after the match against Frankfurt, Leverkusen will kick off their Champions League campaign with a trip to Danish champions Copenhagen.
