NEWS: SOWORE SUMMONED BY DSS OVER ANTI – TINUBU COMMENTS ON X

he Department of State Services (DSS) has summoned Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, over a social media post criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s claim that corruption is no longer a significant issue in Nigeria.

The DSS accused Sowore of making “false, malicious, and inciting” remarks against the President, which could potentially incite public disturbance, disunity, and breakdown of law and order.

“Persons of your status who are campaigning to lead this country must exercise restraint and responsibility in their speech,” DSS said.

The agency said Sowore must issue an unequivocal retraction of the post on the same platform (X, formerly Twitter) with the same prominence as the initial post he must then publish apologies in at least two national dailies and two television stations with national coverage.

Sowore is required to send a formal representation to the DSS headquarters in Abuja or via email within one week.

The DSS warned that failure to comply would lead to “far-reaching measures” to protect national security and public order.

The agency cited Nigerian laws, including the Criminal Code Act, Cyber Crimes Act, and Terrorism Prevention Act, in support of its demands.
