A decomposed body was discovered in a car parked outside the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The body, identified as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, a labourer working at a construction site within the complex, was found in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF. The car was parked outside the annex gate of the National Assembly Complex.
The body was discovered at around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, and it’s believed the vehicle had been parked in the same spot for an extended period.
The cause of death is yet to be determined, but the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, leading to its rejection by Asokoro General Hospital. The Tiv community and youth leaders eventually took the body to Gbawu Village, a border town between AMAC and Kuje Area Council, for burial to prevent a health hazard.
The FCT Police Command has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with efforts ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased (already confirmed as Gaddafi Iwar) and the cause of death.
This incident has raised concerns about security lapses within the heavily guarded National Assembly environment, where vehicles and persons are usually subjected to strict checks before gaining access.
