SPORTS: WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS: SUPER EAGLES DEFEAT RWANDA 1 – 0 IN UYO.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, thanks to a decisive goal from substitute Tolu Arokodare in the 51st minute. The match was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.

Newly Wolverhampton wanderers recruit Tolu Arokodare who was introduced at halftime scored the winning goal after Ola Aina’s low drive was parried into his path, and he bundled the ball over the line.


Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s star striker, scored a disallowed goal in the opening minutes of the game before suffering an ankle injury and being replaced by Cyriel Dessers in the 35th minute. The extent of his injury is still unclear.


Nigeria’s defensive line which consist of Nottingham forest’s Ola Aina, Fulham’s Calvin Bassey, Brentford’s Fredricks and Olympiakos Bruno Onyemaechi held strong earning a clean sheet and keeping Rwanda’s attackers at bay.

Nigeria moves to 10 points after seven games, still six points behind group leaders South Africa.
The Super Eagles face South Africa in their next match, which could be crucial in determining their World Cup qualification chances.
