Former President Goodluck Jonathan recently expressed his concerns about the state of Nigerian politics, describing it as being “full of betrayals and lies”. He made this statement at the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadomhe, in Benin City, Edo State. Jonathan highlighted the challenges of finding trustworthy politicians in Nigeria, citing his own experiences during the 2015 elections as an example.
According to Jonathan, Nigerian politicians often struggle with consistency, saying one thing in the morning and another in the evening. He praised Oghiadomhe as an exception, describing him as a loyal ally who can be trusted. Jonathan’s comments reflect his disappointment with the current state of politics in Nigeria, where loyalty and trust seem to be scarce.
Jonathan emphasized that politics in Nigeria is characterized by betrayals, citing his 2015 election experience as a prime example.
He noted that many Nigerian politicians can’t be trusted, as they often change their stance on issues.
Jonathan commended Oghiadomhe for his loyalty, saying he would “take a bullet” for him and that his word can be trusted.
“You find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening. I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially my 2015, election, and Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf.” Goodluck who served as president of Nigeria from 2009 to 2015 before losing to the now late Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election said.
Some PDP bigwigs have been urging Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race, but others, like FCT minister Nyesom Wike, have advised him to remain a respected statesman.
