Dr. Sijibomi Ogundele, CEO of Sujimoto, has broken his silence after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted for alleged money laundering and diversion of funds. According to Sujimoto, the issue stems from a contract with the Enugu State government that went “sour” due to a significant increase in construction material prices.
The EFCC alleges that Sujimoto’s company engaged in money laundering and diversion of funds.
Sujimoto denies the allegations, claiming he is neither a thief nor a fugitive.
Sujimoto explains that the Enugu State government hired his company for several projects, including designing a 69-storey building, which was part of the contract fallout.
“I’m not a thief or fugitive, this is a contract between my company and the Enugu State government. Enugu State government asked me to help them build a couple of projects which was very interesting.
“In the middle of the project I was going to Enugu every week and the governor said he wanted to build the tallest building in Nigeria, 69 storey building, I designed it and he gave it to me” Sujimoto said via a video in which he broke down in tears.
Sujimoto has vowed to visit the EFCC to clear his name, despite the agency declaring him wanted.
The EFCC’s declaration of Sujimoto as wanted has sparked a public debate, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
