Team Lagos has emerged as the winner of the female football event in the ongoing 9th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State. They defeated Team Delta 5-4 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regular time. The Lagos team came from behind to level the score, showcasing their determination and skill.
The winning team expressed joy and satisfaction with their victory, stating it was more than just a win for them.
Captain of Team Lagos, Rogert, said it was more than a victory.
“We have been coming to Delta to win gold medal in the female football event in the National Youth Games. This is more than a victory for me and my team members.” she said.
In other events, Precious Daniel from Team Delta won gold in the Judo 40kg girls’ category, while Blessing Chukwuengozi from Team Abia took silver and Annabel Iyalekhue from Edo State and Mayor Izibeklen from Bayelsa State shared bronze.
Team Lagos is currently leading the overall medal table with 69 medals, comprising 35 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze. The team’s strong performance in swimming and gymnastics has contributed significantly to their standings.
