Prolific Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has returned to the Nigerian squad for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria will face Rwanda and South Africa in the upcoming qualifiers on September 6 and 9, respectively.
Osimhen, along with other notable players like Ademola Lookman, Wilfred Ndidi, and Alex Iwobi, has been included in the provisional squad by coach Eric Chelle.
Nigeria currently sits fourth in their qualifying group, and maximum points from these matches could be crucial in their World Cup qualification bid.
Osimhen was dropped in May’s Unity cup tournament held in London and the 1 – 1 friendly draw against Russia as coach Eric Chelle said he had to give opportunity to some homegrown emerging talents. Osimhen’s return to the squad is expected to bolster Nigeria’s attacking options.
