BUSINESS NEWS: GITEX: FG GRANTS N75M RESEARCH PUSH FROM 1ST OCTOBER 2025.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a N75 million research grant to support 75 innovative digital projects starting October 1, 2025. This initiative aims to deepen participation in digital innovation and build a resilient ecosystem capable of competing globally.


N75 million will be allocated to support 75 research projects in digital innovation Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, made the disclosure at the GITEX Nigeria 2025 event in Lagos. “On October 1, there will be a research scheme that will support another 75 research projects.

Such investments will reinforce Nigeria’s position in the global digital economy” the Minister announced. Researchers, startups, corporates, and the Nigerian diaspora are eligible for the grant.


The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will roll out the research support scheme. The initiative forms part of the government’s ‘Cloud First Strategy’ to attract hyperscalers and ensure critical national data remains within Nigeria’s borders.

NITDA is working with big tech companies to establish hyperscale data centres in Nigeria, guaranteeing data sovereignty and strengthening local digital capacity.

Nigeria is developing its own AI strategy, including standards for AI adoption and an ethical framework for deployment.
