Muslim-Muslim Ticket: PDP Won’t Repeat APC’s 2023 Error – Bauchi Governor

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will avoid what he termed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s blunder of presenting a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Politics Tonight on Channels Television, Tuesday, the governor dismissed speculations about a possible Seyi Makinde/Bala Mohammed ticket, stressing that the PDP has yet to decide on its flagbearer.

“The PDP remains open, particularly to the South, to bring forward a candidate,” Mohammed stated.
“We don’t want to repeat APC’s mistake. Our position is to have a Christian from the South as presidential candidate, supported by a Muslim from the North as running mate. That would reflect Nigeria’s diversity, unlike what the APC did in 2023.”

Mohammed argued that the ruling party’s choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket failed to consider Nigeria’s pluralism and religious balance.

On the possibility of pairing with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, he said such a ticket could “perform even better” against President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.

“It will depend on what Nigerians want. If they desire continuity of the current administration, that’s their choice. But Nigerians have seen the track record of Seyi and myself at the state level. And beyond us, there are several other credible leaders who can serve as presidential or vice-presidential candidates,” he noted.

He concluded by stressing that the PDP has multiple options for 2027 and pledged his support for whoever emerges as the party’s standard-bearer.
