Carabao Cup Holders Newcastle to Begin Title Defence Against Bradford

Defending champions Newcastle United will launch their Carabao Cup campaign at home against League One side Bradford City in the third round of the competition.

Elsewhere, League Two outfit Grimsby Town, fresh from their stunning penalty shootout victory over Manchester United at Blundell Park, have been rewarded with a trip to Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.

Manchester City, chasing another deep cup run, will meet League One Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium, while Arsenal face an away test against Port Vale.

Last season’s beaten finalists Liverpool, who also enter as reigning Premier League champions, will host Championship opposition in Southampton. Chelsea, meanwhile, travel to Lincoln City.

Two all-Premier League ties headline the round: Brentford hosting Aston Villa, and Wolves welcoming Everton to Molineux.

As per the competition format, clubs involved in the Champions League and Europa League—Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa—were seeded to avoid fixture congestion. Crystal Palace were excluded from this process since the Europa Conference League group stage does not begin until October.

The third-round matches are scheduled to be played across two weeks, beginning on 15 and 22 September, with European fixtures running alongside the domestic cup ties.
