Sean “Diddy” Combs has secured another courtroom victory, even as he sits in custody awaiting sentencing in his federal case.
A civil lawsuit filed earlier this year by a man who accused the music mogul of drugging and sexually assaulting him nearly a decade ago has been dismissed by a New York judge.
The plaintiff, identified as John Doe, claimed he was a 23-year-old aspiring artist in 2015 when he performed at a Los Angeles nightclub where Diddy was present. He alleged that after being given a drink, he lost consciousness and later awoke to unwanted sexual contact. He further claimed Diddy warned him that resisting could harm his career.
The judge, however, ruled the complaint came too late. The court cited New York’s five-year statute of limitations in effect at the time of the alleged incident. While a 2019 law extended the filing window to 20 years, the judge explained it does not apply retroactively.
Doe had also sued Combs’ companies — Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Enterprises — but those claims were tossed out as well.
This is one of several recent civil cases that have ended in Diddy’s favor. Still, multiple lawsuits remain active, and he is set to learn his sentence in the federal case on October 3.
