A report from Notjustok, Here is the latest update on if the players who represented Nigeria at WAFCON 2024 have received their $100,000.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has confirmed that the team is still awaiting the $100,000 reward promised by the Federal Government after their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The revelation has raised fresh concerns over the fulfilment of commitments to Nigeria’s women’s national team.
Speaking during an appearance on the program With Chude, Ajibade expressed her thoughts and added that she hoped this wouldberesolved soon.
She said: “We have not received our money.”
President Bola Tinubu had, in the wake of the team’s historic tenth WAFCON title, announced a $100,000 bonus for the players, along with three-bedroom apartments and national honours.
However, according to Ajibade, neither the cash reward nor the other promised benefits have been delivered.
The delay has sparked mixed reactions from fans and sports advocates, many of whom believe such treatment undermines the morale of the team and sends a discouraging message about the value placed on women’s sports in Nigeria.
