As we count down to the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season, the stage is set for another thrilling campaign for all 20 clubs from the race to win the title to the race to finish in the UEFA Champions League spots and the relegation battle.
The 2025/26 Premier League season will have plenty of storylines, fierce rivalries, and fresh talent to light up England’s top-flight League and put the fans on the edge of their seats. Liverpool will be looking to win the Premier League title for the second time in a row after Arne Slot knocked off Pep Guardiola and Manchester City off their perch.
Mikel Arteta will hope he can take his Arsenal team to a position better than finishing in second place, which has been the norm in the past three seasons. On the other hand, Chelsea supporters will hope their team can replicate the same feat they achieved at the FIFA Club World Cup by winning the Premier League title for the first time since 2017.
Manchester United, after heavy investment last summer, are under pressure to finally deliver a sustained challenge to the top teams. The Red Devils experienced their worst form ever in over five decades in English top-flight football during the 2025/26 season as they finished 16th on the league table
Let’s dive into the teams that will compete for the title and those that will most likely get relegated when the season ends in May 2026.
Title Contenders
Manchester City and Liverpool will remain the favourites, both boasting deep, star-studded squads and tactical stability under Pep Guardiola and Ruben Amorim, respectively.
Arsenal have also been tagged as one of the contenders to win the league, especially after they completed the signing of Viktor Gyökeres, who joined the North Londoners from Sporting Lisbon.
Champions League Race
Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Aston Villa are expected to push hard for top-four places. These teams have been busy during the transfer window as they continue in their quest to prove their long-term project is working.
At least a minimum of four teams and a maximum of five will qualify for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League. Our prediction is Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham.
Relegation battle
The last two seasons have seen the promoted teams get relegated. Luton, Burnley, and Sheffield were relegated from the 2023/24 season while Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town also got relegated last season ( 2024/25).
However, Burnley, Sunderland, and Leeds City will be hoping not to follow the example of recently promoted teams. We expect at least one of these teams to get relegated which will most likely be Burnley.
Conclusion:
The 2025/26 season is going to go down as one of the most competitive in the history of the competition. However, against all odds, Chelsea will emerge as the Champions of the Premier League, this is due to the squad depth which will come in handy.
The acquisition of Liam Delap, Willian Esteavo, and Joao Pedro along with some other attacking players in the squad. The Blues’ defensive prowess will also serve as a huge advantage as the season progresses.
Manchester City will finish closely behind Chelsea while Liverpool, Arsenal will occupy the third and fourth place.
